As we step into the first day of June, there’s something beautifully symbolic about new beginnings. Just as God’s mercies are new every morning (Lamentations 3:22-23), the beginning of a new month offers a sacred invitation to renew our commitments, especially within our relationships and marriages.
A Fresh Start for the Heart
Marriage and dating relationships, like gardens, need intentional tending. They don’t flourish on auto-pilot. And yet, many of us coast through seasons hoping things will magically improve. This month, let’s be intentional.
Ask yourself:
-
When was the last time I prayed with and for my spouse or partner?
-
Have I created space for meaningful, uninterrupted conversation?
-
Am I listening more than I’m speaking?
-
Have I forgiven fully, or am I still holding on to silent grudges?
June is the month where summer begins, growth, warmth, and vibrancy return. Why not let that be true in your relationship as well?
Three June Challenges for Couples and Singles in Christ
1. A Weekly “Heart Check”
Set aside one night a week (even just 20 minutes) for a gentle check-in with your partner. Ask each other: “How are we doing?” “What’s something you need from me this week?” “Where is God stretching us?”
2. Intentional Prayer Together
Couples: pray together aloud at least three times a week, even if it’s just a minute before sleep.
Singles: commit to praying weekly over your future spouse or for healing from past relationship wounds.
3. A Forgiveness Fast
Choose one thing you’ve been harboring, a grudge, an unspoken disappointment, and release it. Confess it to God. Talk it out if needed. Let this be a month where bitterness has no room to grow.
Love Reflects Christ
Christian love isn’t built only on feelings, it is founded on covenant, sacrifice, humility, and grace. Just as Christ laid down His life for the Church (Ephesians 5:25), we’re called to serve one another in love, in the ordinary and extraordinary moments of daily life.
Let June be a reminder that we don’t have to wait for anniversaries or crises to realign our relationships. The first day of a new month is just as holy a moment to choose love, again.
May your home be filled with peace, your words with kindness, and your hearts with grace this June.
